The Fourth of July in America is one of the nation’s most celebrated holidays. Itis a national holiday, so most businesses are closed for citizens to enjoy the day.
It is typical for people to celebrate with friends and family. Depending on where one lives, it may differ what experiences one may have. In general,people will gather in the afternoon to start grilling out. At this type of barbeque,hamburgers and hotdogs are staple foods. Other items people will have: potato salad, potato chips, ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, and of course, dessert. If some body of water is available or close by, like a lake or swimming pool, people will often relax nearby.
Major League Baseball games are usually on television during the afternoons for sports fans to watch together until the sun begins to fade. At this point,grilling out will continue for dinner as adults might prepare small fireworks to shoot off on their property. It is common for most towns and cities to have a firework’s display at a designated location put on by the local government; or if you are on the lake, wealthy neighbors will put on their own show where you can float in the water while watching. Some towns even have parades that local schools, businesses, or government officials will participate in to celebrate Independence Day.
I have many fond memories of fourth of July celebrations. Most times were?spent with family and at my aunt’s home that had a pool. As I got older, I would?spend time with friends going to lakes or rivers to enjoy the water during the?summer heat and build a fire to cook our hamburgers and hotdogs. When I?became an adult, lounging with my neighbors outside as we grilled all day was?usually how I spent those holidays. You also couldn’t go far without seeing an?American flag hanging outside people’s homes, truly making you feel proud to
be American.
