MAYA OKAMOTO

English Basic Training Course 1 year
Tokyo Metropolitan Shoyo High School
Passed the Practical English Proficiency Test Level 2

The best way to improve your English is to learn while having fun. It was a year in which I changed from being "bad" at English to being "good" at it.

This department is perfect for those who "like English but are not very good at it. Grammar and pronunciation are taught carefully from the very beginning. What I have seen the most improvement in is my listening ability. When I first enrolled, I could hardly understand the conversations of foreign teachers, but now I can understand most of them. My favorite class is "English Phonetics. First, we thoroughly learn how to pronounce words correctly, and then we practice speaking rhythmically like a foreigner using long sentences. They teach you how to use your tongue in great detail, so I became much more confident in my pronunciation. When words I knew appeared and I could understand the content, I began to enjoy English more. In this way, I steadily built up my studies and passed the Eiken Level 2 test in December. In the future, I would like to pass the Pre-1 level. In the "study counseling" session, the teacher not only gives advice on study methods, but also provides advice on career paths. Through conversations with the teachers, I was able to recall my childhood dream of becoming a nursery school teacher. In order to further strengthen my English skills, I will be entering another department at Kanda Institute of Languages in the following year. After graduation, I would like to become a teacher and convey the joy of learning English to children.

MESSAGE

His TOEIC? score, which was 235 at the time of enrollment, is now 800.
After transferring to a university, I would like to try studying abroad.

I first fell in love with English when I was in junior high school. However, I was not an avid student, and in my third year of high school, I failed the third level of the English Proficiency Test, which is considered to be the level required to graduate from junior high school, and I felt a sense of crisis. Still, I had a clear goal of improving my English skills, so I applied to Kanda Institute of Languages because I knew that if I enrolled in the school, they would "do something about it. I envisioned a path that would allow me to carefully relearn English in the Basic English Training Course, then move on to the English Major Course, and finally transfer to a university. After enrolling in the school, I found that I was able to establish a good study habit as I completed many assignments. I received guidance on how to study at the "study counseling" sessions, and I found a method that I could continue to study without difficulty. I had heard that the amount of study was very heavy, but from my point of view, it was a good thing. My understanding of grammar, which I was particularly anxious about, deepened, and the holes I had left in junior high and high school were steadily filled in. In addition, I voluntarily worked on improving my vocabulary, and my TOEIC? score jumped from 235 to 685. As my English skills improved, I grew to the point where I could openly converse with anyone, including foreign teachers. I actively visited ECL, where I could interact with international students, and enjoyed daily conversations in English. In April 2023, I achieved my dream of transferring to a university. The biggest reason why I was able to realize my original plan was that I was able to learn English from the very basics. I have nothing but gratitude to my teachers.
