Spanish Course Curriculum

Department of International Communication

It is called the international language of the 21st century and is the official language of approximately 21 countries around the world.
Students will learn Spanish at the same time as English.

One 90-minute class session per week for each term (15 weeks) is considered 2 credits. Number of credits required for graduation / 114 credits (1,824 hours)
This curriculum is designed for beginners of Spanish. Curriculum is subject to slight modifications.

Course Specialization	Major Common Subjects	Spanish Grammar		2		2					This course is designed to help students acquire accurate grammar skills, which are the basis for all aspects of learning the Spanish language. This course is designed to help students develop the basic skills necessary to improve their language skills and to apply them to other classes that require more advanced skills.
		Spanish Conversation		2		2					Students will begin by learning greetings used in daily life and conversational expressions used on the road to acquire basic conversational skills in Spanish.
		Spanish Pronunciation Clinic		2		2					Students will practice over and over again to get used to the Spanish pronunciation, which is very different from Japanese, and to acquire the correct pronunciation.
		Spanish Reading Comprehension Training		4		2					Students will begin at the beginning level of grammar and develop the ability to read and understand long-form questions. Gradually, students will move up to the next level and gain an understanding of current events and other topics.
		Spanish Language Proficiency Test Course				2		4			The course will focus on questions from Levels 4 to 3 of the Spanish Proficiency Test, as well as listening comprehension. Students will learn more advanced grammar, improve their comprehension of longer texts, and reach the B1~B2 (intermediate to advanced intermediate) level of the DELE Spanish Proficiency Test.
		Spanish Presentation						2		2	Students will gather information on a variety of topics individually or in groups and practice giving presentations in Spanish. In addition to improving language skills, students will learn how to prepare and present effective and engaging materials.
		Spanish Discussion						2		2	Based on the conversational skills acquired, students will engage in discussions in Spanish on a theme. Students will acquire more advanced conversational and negotiation skills.
		Spanish Academic Writing								4	Students will acquire writing skills for writing papers and reports.
		Spanish Reading & Vocabulary						2		2	By reading a large number of texts, students will hone their reading skills and improve their vocabulary through various expressions in the texts.
		European Studies		2		2					Students will understand European culture beyond language, including history, customs, food, politics, economics, and religion. By deeply examining the relationship with Japan as well, we nurture human resources who can serve as a bridge between the two countries.
common subject	English Courses	EIB (English for International Business)	Communication Strategies	10		10		8		8	In this class, students learn English from foreign teachers five times a week in the first year and four times a week in the second year. In two years, students learn from foreign teachers from various countries and are exposed to the different cultures and customs of each country and region. Classes are small, with no more than 20 students, and are organized according to proficiency level. Students will also have many speeches, discussions, and presentations to improve their ability to communicate in English.

		TOEIC? (Test of English as a Foreign Language)	TOEIC? Listening	4		4		2		2	This class is designed to improve TOEIC? scores required for job hunting and university transfer. In proficiency-based classes, students develop listening, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension skills, while learning efficient response skills and time management methods. Vocabulary and grammar skills, the foundation of English proficiency, cannot be acquired overnight, so vocabulary and grammar quizzes will be given each class.

	Business Courses	Corporate Research		2		2					Students will learn basic corporate research frameworks. Students will also learn about society, political economy, and how the world works through current events. Students will deepen their interest and understanding of what it means to work, what a company is, and what it means to be part of society.
	digital IT Skills Courses	MOS Preparation (Word/PowerPoint/Excel)		2		2					Students will learn the basics of Microsoft Office Specialist (Word/PowerPoint/Excel) in order to improve their digital literacy and obtain certification in Microsoft Office Specialist (Word/PowerPoint/Excel).
Overseas Training Programs				14							Students can participate in short-term study abroad programs organized by Kanda Institute of Languages.
